I, or anyone with windows live messenger, can offer remote assistance to those who don't know how to fix whatever problem they might have that doesn't require the PC to be rebooted after every fix. IT CAN be rebooted after every fix, however it gets kinda tedious to restart live messenger after the reboot, then request assistance from the person who just assisted you just a few minutes before, so I don't recommend doing that unless absolutely necessary.
first, you must download and install the latest windows live messenger. you can set it to not start up at windows boot time if you wish using MSCONFIG (but if you are unfamiliar with this tool, it CAN AND WILL screw up your PC... USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!), but you can always right click the icon in the task bar and click exit or whatever to close the program down completely when not in use.
Next, contact the person you wish to recieve assistance from via steam or vent. they will tell you thier user name so you can add them as a friend in messenger, and then once that is done, open up a text chat window with them with messenger. in the upper right corner of the chat window, there will be an icon that when you hover over it, it says show menu. click this, which opens up a menu. now, hover over actions, which opens the actions sub-menu. drag over and down with the mouse (without pushing a mouse button), over request remote assistance. this will send them a link in messenger to remotely log in to your computer and basically take over your keyboard and mouse with thiers so they can fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed. you can keep talking in vent all while this is going on.
Keep this in mind for when you cant figure out how to fix something.
